On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago (FAHSC), I wish to express our appreciation to the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago for forging a partnership with FAHSC to establish a webpage for the 150th Anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal.
We, in Chicago, look forward to a year of celebration in 2011 of an extraordinary milestone that comes but once in a lifetime. We encourage the Filipino American community of Greater Chicago to participate with varied programs to honor Dr. Jose P. Rizal.
The launching of Chicago Celebrates 150 Years of Dr. Jose P. Rizal will be held on December 10, 2010, at 6:00 pm at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Consulate located at 30 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 2100, Chicago, Illinois 60602.
The event will serve as a debut of the webpage, designed to educate the public about Dr. Jose Rizal, to instill awareness of the sesquicentennial celebration of Dr. Rizal and to serve as an information resource. All Consulate and community related activities about the year-long celebration will be posted online on the FAHSC website, linking the Rizal webpage to the website of the Philippine Consulate General. The Rizal webpage will be accessible from both websites.
In Chicago, tributes to Dr. Jose P. Rizal have been an annual tradition since the early 1900s. The Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago is looking forward to recording the 2011 year-long observance.
Yours truly,
Estrella R. Alamar
President
Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago
